What Do Facial Rollers Do?

Facial rollers are all the rage right now and will continue to be in 2021. I can't watch an episode of any Real Housewives franchise without seeing one of the castmembers use one. I'm starting to think maybe they have an advertising deal. Or could it be that they are handy devices that actually work? Legit facial rollers are made of rose quartz or jade. 

How Do Facial Rollers Work?

The Chinese believe that jade draws out negative "chi" which is powerful in traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts. Facial rollers claim to decrease sagginess or bags under the eyes, stimulate blood circulation, reduce puffiness in the face, ease pain, and smooth wrinkles. The stone is naturally cool making it soothing on the skin. 

Using a jade roller regularly can help reduce morning puffiness and swelling. The act of rolling the stone along your face causes lymphatic drainage. As you continuously roll upwards, it moves lymphatic fluid reducing inflammation. The lymph nodes you'll want to focus on with the jade roller are along the jaw, the base of your nose, back of the neck, outside the mouth, under the chin, and behind the ears. 

I like to apply a good serum or facial oil such as grapeseed oil or almond oil to my skin. I then roll upwards (not up and down) helping penetrate the oil deep into my skin while stimulating blood flow and doing lymphatic drainage at the same time. It's important that you clean your facial roller after each use with your daily cleanser or mild soap.

There is no research-based proof that jade rollers are more effective then rose quartz rollers. Don't be fooled by the facial rollers selling for $40 and above. You can find most rollers for under $10 that work just as good. I use this rose quartz facial roller I got at Target by Sonia Kashuk for $15.00 and love it. You can tell it's not cheaply made like the ones you can find online that break easily. I store mine in the fridge (trust me) you'll love the cooling effect. When cold, I use the small piece and press it under my eye bags for a few minutes each to reduce swelling. I've noticed over time that the cold reduces redness I see around my cheeks.
