Diet To Treat Gastritis

Suffering from gastritis can be extremely uncomfortable. It feels like a dull or sharp pain in your abdomen area. Some people also show signs of nausea, bloating, indigestion, vomiting, and loss of appetite. There are several culprits that can heighten gastritis symptoms including; alcohol, smoking, soda, caffeinated drinks, foods high in fat, and acidic fruits like lemons, grapefruit, and oranges.

I was recently diagnosed with gastritis due to my excessive alcohol consumption. I would wake up with pain in my stomach and uncomfortable bloating that would last all day long. I hated the feeling as I felt like I had gained 15 pounds overnight. My doctor recommended certain foods to avoid and which ones to implement in my diet. After following these rules, I noticed a change and little to no pain in a matter of two days. It's important to note that the time it takes to heal depends on the severity of your gastritis and your doctors treatment plan. My gastritis, obviously was not at the severe stage yet.

Foods To Avoid With Gastritis

* Acidic foods

* Fried foods

* High-fat foods

* Coffee and soda

* Spicy foods

* Sugary foods

* Fruit juice

* Full-fat dairy

Lifestyle changes are also essential. Avoid alcohol and smoking cigarettes as they aggravate gastritis symptoms tremendously. My doctor also advised me to lose weight and exercise for 30 minutes at least 4 times a week.

What To Eat With Gastritis

You would be surprised that there is a longer list of foods you CAN eat with gastritis which is great news! I even realized a few that I never really ate before that I now love like Greek yogurt. Here are the foods you want to start implementing in your diet (with your doctors permission).

* Eggs or egg substitues

* Beans

* Mild cheese

* Seafood or shellfish

* Honey

* Whole-grain bread and pasta

* Barley and oats

* Rice

* Carrots, cucumber, potato

* Strawberries, blueberries, apples

* Low-fat yogurt

* Turmeric, peppermint, ginger

* Lean poultry no skin

Pro-biotic rich foods are important to help take care of your gut. I eat a couple spoonfuls of sauerkraut twice a day after lunch and dinner. You can also consume kimchi or take a probiotic with papaya enzyme supplement.

Here is my sample diet I've been following for the past two days and I feel great.

Breakfast

1 whole-grain English muffin

1 cup mix of blueberries and strawberries

1 egg plus 1 egg white

1 cup caffeine-free green tea with 1 tablespoon honey

Lunch

My Spinach Wrap:

1 spinach tortilla

2 tbsp mild shredded cheese

1 slice turkey bacon

1 handful either raw spinach or arugula

1/4 avocado sliced

On the side I'll have a cup of low-fat Greek yogurt with the wrap

Snacks

1 serving of baked chips or pretzels

1/2 of the avocado I used for breakfast on 1/2 of a whole-grain bagel

1 cup oatmeal

Dinner

1 boneless skinless chicken breast

1 1/2 cups caulifower

1 cup brown rice with garlic
