Plastic Surgery Trends For 2023

Cosmetic surgery procedures were on the rise this year and they show no signs of descending in 2023. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were over 18 million minimally invasive and surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. in 2018. It will be interesting to see what the new numbers are by the end of this year. Currently, the top 5 cosmetic procedures are:

1. Breast Augmentation

2. Liposuction

3. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)

4. Eyelid surgery

5. Tummy tuck

Body-shaping procedures whether non-invasive or performed with liposuction, will continue to be on the top 5 list throughout 2020. This includes the Brazilian butt lift we see so often along with fat transfer from other areas of the body to the buttocks.

The top minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are:

1. Botox (Botulinum toxin)

2. Fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, etc.)

3. Chemical peel

4. Laser hair removal

5. Microdermabrasion

Thanks to the help of the Kardashian's and other surgically enhanced celebrities, liposuction will continue to be the gold standard in body contouring for decades to come. Liposuction is effective, versatile, and efficient. During a liposuction procedure, your plastic surgeon can reshape one or multiple areas in one procedure. Lipo gives you a more dramatic and longer lasting result compared to non-invasive treatments such as Sonabello or Cool Sculpting. When I think of eyelid and rhinoplasty surgery, I get a little hesitant. I would love to have both, however, thinking about someone taking a scalpel to the face scares me. Luckily, there are now emerging procedures used that are non surgical to reshape the nose and fix those "hooded eyes." Here are the new cosmetic trends you can expect in 2020.

Hybrid Breast Augmentation

You're will hear a lot more about this procedure in 2020. This is a new type of high-tech breast augmentation that uses fat transfer to enhance the breasts. It promises a shorter recovery time with fewer risks compared to your standard breast implant surgery. A plastic surgeon uses liposuction to remove unwanted fat from parts of the body, and injects it into your breast tissue. Hybrid breast augmentation is ideal for women who are looking for a natural result by slightly increasing their breast size. This new cosmetic procedure uses a special suction-pump bra to "pre-expand" the breasts for a few weeks before surgery. The bra gradually expands the breast using a gentle vacuum-like pressure. This allows for more room in the breasts to inject the unwanted fat. Many women saw an increase in breast size by 8-ounces over a one year period.

Lip Lifts

Fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm are most commonly used to enhance and plump the lips. In 2020, there will be a higher demand for fuller lips but with patient's seeking a more natural result. A lip lift is a permanent procedure that shortens the space between the top of the lip and the bottom of the nose to fit the face. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia in under an hour. Your plastic surgeon will carve out a strip of skin below the nostrils in a bullhorn-shape. This technique raises the edges of the lips and defines the Cupid's bow making the mouth look more prominent and defined.

Ultrasonic Rhino-Sculpture

There will always be a demand for nose jobs in the United States. In 2020, we will see a lot more of them but in the form of ultrasonic rhino-sculpture. A typical nose job surgery requires a lot of downtime and those unsightly black eyes. Ultrasonic rhino-sculpture delivers precise results with faster recovery times. The procedure involves using a probe-like device that emits ultrasonic energy. This allows the plastic surgeon to reshape the nose accurately without damaging the cartilage and soft tissue. The energy from the device specifically targets the bone, leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. This results in little to no swelling or bruising. Ultrasonic rhino-sculpture is much safer and less traumatic than regular rhinoplasty surgery.

3D Facelift

Micro-surgeries that result in minimal scarring and downtime will be in high demand in 2020. A 3D Facelift is the newest trend that pulls tissue from the inside of the face and is transferred onto the cheekbones. As we age, our facial tissue sags and causes wrinkles. A 3D Facelift transfers fat from the lower portion of the face to the cheeks adding volume. Unlike traditional facelifts, a 3D facelift is done under local anesthesia and doesn't give you the "pulled back" look like other facelifts provide. A 3D Facelift is a great alternative for those who want a youthful appearance but are hesitant to go under the knife.
